Clams are the primary Currency of the Core Server and Adventure Server. Clams can be earned through play time, selling items, Voting for the server, and can be spent in shops and other places around the server.

History[]

Clams were added to the Core Server long before the Serverpocalypse as part of the push to add an adventure aspect to the server. They've been a constant feature ever since. Until recently, Clams were dropped by slain mobs, allowing players to earn clams naturally, but this feature was removed due to the plugin breaking.

Description[]

Clams (cl) are a virtual currency used on the Core Server. The fractional currency of a Clam is called a Shell (sh), where 1.00cl = 100sh. The economy is managed by the plugin BOSEconomy, a plugin which is now abandoned, but still functional. Each player's economy balance is saved in their "wallet" and can be viewed at any time by typing /econ at any time.

Income Sources[]

Players can earn Clams through any of the following means:

  • Hourly playtime (10cl * the fraction of the last hour the player was online)
  • Selling items to shops
  • Voting for the server (50cl/vote)
  • Other players purchasing items from an owned shop
  • Direct payments from other players
  • Redeeming loyalty points

Expenses[]

Players can spend Clams through any of the following means:

  • Purchasing items from shops
  • Opening a Shop
  • Buying a Horse
  • Bus fares
  • Other players selling items to an owned shop
  • Direct payments to other players

Exchange Rate[]

Each Clam is worth a certain amount of each ore, as priced by Clyde's Ores. Each Clam is worth:

  • 2 Redstone Dust (1 Redstone Dust = 0.50cl = 50sh)
  • 0.5 Coal (1 Coal = 2cl)
  • 0.5 Nether Quartz (1 Nether Quartz = 2cl)
  • 0.1 Iron Ingots (1 Iron Ingot = 10cl)
  • 0.04 Gold Ingots (1 Gold Ingot = 25cl)
  • 0.008 Emeralds (1 Emerald = 125cl)
  • 0.004 Diamonds (1 Diamond = 250cl)

By conversion of other Currency to ores, each Clam is worth:

  • 0.512 Money Bags (1 Money Bag = 1.953125cl) - Each Money Bag is 1/64th of an Emerald
  • 0.512 Beardy Tokens (1 Beardy Token = 1.953125cl) - Each Beardy Token is 1/64th of an Emerald
  • 0.1 Loyalty Points (1 Loyalty Point = 10cl)

Rich Players[]

Due to the high sell prices for Diamonds and Emeralds, players who spend a majority of their time mining can accrue a large amount of money. Notorious for this is player Grrlpower, who has stayed at the top of the econ leaderboards since its inception. The problem these players face, however, is that they have way more money than they can use, and never spend time on building, so they end up with millions of useless Clams. To avoid this, we encourage spending money on building materials for projects.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Clams" is a reference to the currency from the Nickelodeon mega-hit Spongebob Squarepants. Furthermore, "Clams" is also a 1920's slang term for money.
  • The Adventure Server also uses Clams as its currency, however players do NOT share their wallets between servers.
  • The MoneyDrop plugin caused mobs to drop dummy gold nuggets that turned into clams when picked up. A major factor in its removal was an exploit where the dummy nuggets were able to be picked up by hoppers and used as items.
  • Due to a bug with the BOSEconomy plugin, it is impossible to achieve 10cl for playing a full hour on the server. For some reason, the maximum a player can achieve is around 7.50cl for a full hour.
  • The command /money can also be used to show the contents of a player's wallet in the Essentials style.
